Job Description

WELLBEING MANAGER

An exciting opportunity has opened up for a new Wellbeing Manager position, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in an award-winning veterans’ charity.  Based in Portsmouth, with satellite activities in the IOW and Hampshire, Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) is looking for a dynamic, committed, team-player to manage its non-clinical range of peer-supported activities and social groups, providing high-quality, accessible support and services for our beneficiaries.

About the charity:

Set up in 2008, Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) offers a wide range of support, including mental health therapies and substance misuse support to Armed Forces veterans (both regular and reservist), former members of the merchant marine, and spouses/partners.  Based in the Royal Maritime Club (RMC) Portsmouth, VOS runs a wide variety of welfare and peer-supported wellbeing activities, as well as two Drop-Ins every month – one in Portsmouth and one in Newport (IOW), where a diverse range of delivery partners and volunteers provide a ‘one-stop shop’ event for those in need. VOS is well-known in the service charity community and was the recipient of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2017 and became the first recipient of the Shaping Portsmouth Armed Forces Support Award in 2021.

The Role:

You will act as the lead for all VOS wellbeing activities, designing, developing, and delivering a wide range of indoor, outdoor, and online peer-supported activities that promote the physical and mental wellbeing. Working with other VOS staff and clinicians, you will be part of a wider team and will contribute to holistic assessments, develop personalised activity plans, and support the VOS welfare and clinical teams in addressing service user needs. You will also work in close cooperation with a range of volunteers, delivery partners and other statutory and charitable organisations, including social prescribers in the VOS area of operations, providing a referral path to VOS activities, whilst extending the range of support through the work of partners. As the Wellbeing Manager, you will be a member of the VOS Management Team and will represent the charity at meetings and partnership boards, maximising cooperation and collaboration with external stakeholders. About You:

The successful candidate will be a highly organised self-starter and planner, capable of managing multiple strands of activity, whilst remaining close to, and addressing the needs of a large number of service users. You will be highly motivated, adaptable and flexible, with high levels of emotional intelligence (EQ) and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially listening. You will be capable of building strong relationships, with service users, volunteers and delivery partners alike. You will be both a leader and a team player, working as part of a dynamic team in a high tempo environment, getting the best out of those you guide, and giving of your best to those you support and work with. You will also be capable of travelling independently, in your own transport, across all VOS locations on the mainland and IOW.  Knowledge of veterans’ issues and experience in occupational health is desirable, but not essential.
