Head of Opportunities
university of east london students' union

Job Description

The University of East London Students' Union is a membership organisation set up to ensure students are empowered to have a full university experience. We offer our members opportunities to meet new people, explore interests and establish mechanisms to improve their course and University.

This is a new role which has been created to help us resolve some big challenges. We do not have enough activities and events happening on our campuses. Outside a small core group, student participation is extremely low. We know that the support we offer to our student groups could be much better. We do not have a formal recognition scheme in place for volunteers. We want somebody who is up for the challenge of helping us to resolve this.

We expect the head of opportunities to transform our approach to student activities and events. Our goal in this area is to support the building of engaged communities on our campuses. The job includes overseeing the work of student groups, developing an events programme (not just bar/venue entertainment, but lecture series, day trips and so on), and building new student media outlets, starting with a student newspaper. The head will also be responsible for develop a new volunteering strategy and putting in place a recognition scheme for volunteers which links with the University’s schemes (and includes other volunteers such as course reps).

You will have experience of doing a similar role (this does not have to be in students’ unions) and be able to demonstrate success in getting people involved.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
