Centre Manager
the south london centre for psychoanalysis

Job Description

Our new Centre Manager will have an interest or background in mental health and psychoanalysis. You will bring skills and experience to the The South London Centre for Psychoanalysis to make sure it is a welcoming, well-managed facility that operates for the benefit of local and psychoanalytic communities.

You can effectively communicate with a wide range of people in a courteous and helpful manner, enjoy contributing creatively to the mission of small organisations and are experienced in managing multiple work streams simultaneously.

About us

The South London Centre for Psychoanalysis (“the Centre”) is a not-for-profit organisation, Community Interest Company (CIC), in its third year of trading and was established by local psychoanalysts concerned to address the provision of intensive psychological services for those most in need.

The Centre meets the needs of local psychoanalysts, psychotherapists and the local community by providing psychotherapy treatment rooms and space for training and events related to developing psychotherapy services.

More than this, it is a hub where psychoanalysts can meet, work together and exchange ideas on developing the practice as a whole.

  • Affordable treatment:  Trainees (‘candidates’) from the Institute of Psychoanalysis (IoPA) offer low fee psychoanalysis for the local community.
  • Community space: We run weekly playgroups for parents and toddlers of refugees and asylum seekers.  A monthly Psychoanalytical Film Club is running and we plan to launch more public programmes.
  • Education centre: We host lectures, seminars, steering groups and specialist training for psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, NHS staff and the general public

Main purpose of the role

Working closely with the Board, the new Centre Manager will lead strategic and operational delivery and use their expertise to implement and increase a range of accessible services and educational activities.

This is a part time, 24 hours a week, role initially: 1 - 2 days based at the Centre in Denmark Hill and 8 hours worked as-required, across the week, to keep operations flowing. The capacity to be flexible will be an advantage. You will be required to work some evenings and weekends on occasion. Current fundraising targets for the coming year incorporate plans to extend the Centre Manager to a full time role.

This is an exciting time to join a CIC committed to the delivery of a new culturally and socially driven mission; the Centre of the future will be shaped by the people working for the South London Centre for Psychoanalysis now.
