Volunteer Officer

Job Description

We are looking to recruit a full-time Volunteer Officer to lead on the recruitment, training, placement and supervision of volunteers across the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. 

In this role, you will work with the Head of HR to build the culture of volunteering at the Trust and work with Volunteer Supervisors to meet the organisations ambitious plans for its volunteering programme and to create and implement solutions to strengthen the volunteer workforce. You will work on key volunteering programmes and proactively seek innovative opportunities to engage partners and staff in volunteering at the Trust such as corporate volunteering programmes and ad hoc event volunteering. 

You will be a core member of the Volunteer Champions group to build a community of volunteers across the organisation. You will proactively visit departments and locations on a regular basis to get to know existing volunteers, gain a full understanding of their roles and contribution, and foster relationships to support volunteer retention. 

To be successful in this role you will have experience of volunteering, understand the part that volunteers can play in an organisation’s success, and be able to advocate for volunteering internally and externally. You will have experience of recruiting and retaining volunteers, you will possess knowledge of volunteering trends and legislation, and have experience of encouraging colleagues to identify, engage and recruit volunteers to support project work and our ambitious plans. 

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be willing to support new and experienced Volunteer Supervisors including coaching them to have brave/difficult conversations. You will be accurate, methodical and well organised in order to manage your own workload, prioritise activities and tasks, and ensure that you meet deadlines.
