Job Description
We are looking to recruit a new Chair to lead our Board of Trustees at an exciting time for our charity
We are a small Hertfordshire based charity providing a wide range of fun activities and educational programmes to deaf children and young adults, as well as their families. Based in Stevenage, we provide both individual and group support, life skills training, workshops and courses accessible to both oral and BSL users with any degree of hearing loss \ deafness.
What we aim to achieve for our members:
- Increased friendships and reduced isolation
- Improved skills, confidence and independence
- Promote positive Mental Health
- Increased feelings of support and inclusion for our members
- Improve Deaf Awareness and BSL skills in the local community
The existing Board has a wide range of professional experience supported by two external advisers, as well as a deaf young person advising the Board with respect to the views of our deaf membership.
Key attributes for the role:
- Experience of operating on a Board with demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to formulate strategic plans in conjunction with our CEO
- The ability to build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve our goals and objectives
- Confident and effective communication skills with a range of audiences and the ability to challenge in a constructive way
- Knowledge or experience of working with organisations supporting disabled \ disadvantaged children and young people would be an advantage
We would particularly welcome deaf applicants or individuals with direct knowledge or experience of working with deaf young people
It is not necessary to have previous experience of being a Chair. This position could therefore suit someone who has served as a trustee in a larger organisation and is now looking to develop wider Board level, leadership and governance experience
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
