Job Description

The London Irish Centre’s Community Development Service aims to support, build and sustain resilient communities across London using a strengths-based approach. In line with the London Irish Centre’s Community Services strategy, the Service works to empower people to form and develop their own support networks to reduce dependence on services and enable people to live fruitful, fulfilling and healthy lives.

By engaging with people at a heart and head level, the Service aims to draw on the best of community spirit and resource that exists across the Irish and broader communities. With particular attention to some of our more vulnerable communities, it addresses needs around isolation, mental health, physical health, food poverty and digital poverty. It does this by drawing on community assets, bringing people together to provide mutual support.

The postholder designs and develops programmes which enable and encourage engagement in community activities, online and in person, in order to strengthen community support. They maintain an overview of engagement, impact and performance whilst seeking to maximise opportunities for partnership development.

The Service works through a range of programmes, including innovative support to set up volunteer-led social groups around London, the Community Café, online groups, Befriending and Community Health Navigation. The Service offers targeted support around food poverty through our Community Fridge and Community Kitchen, and supports people to connect online via our Digital Inclusion work. Strong partnership working with local councils, and health and community groups is key to achieving these outcomes.
