Job Description

The Joshua Tree charity supports families affected by childhood cancers.

Our Mission Statement is to provide bespoke programmes of support to improve the emotional well-being and mental health of all immediate and extended family members, who are affected by childhood cancers, in North West England and North Wales, for as long as they need it.

The charity provides a diverse range of wellbeing support to affected children, their siblings, parents and grandparents.  This includes 1:1 counselling, popular family meet-ups, personal fitness and nutritional sessions and educational support amongst others; the service truly is unique.

In 2021 we opened the doors to our brand new, purpose built non-residential support centre set in the beautiful Cheshire countryside.  This centre provides an ideal sanctuary for families away from the confines of an institutional hospital environment.

To help The Joshua Tree continue to support families going through the most unimaginable times we welcome new people to join the Trustee board. We are looking to further strengthen our existing Trustee team with people who have the passion and vision to contribute in a holistic way but with a particular emphasis and skill set in the following areas:

  • Fundraising/Income Generation (preferably within the charity sector)
  • Human Resources
  • Counselling & Family Support

This is an exciting time to join our charity as we further develop our services and proposition established over the past 15 years. As a Trustee your contribution to the board and charity will help us succeed in our growth, whilst continuing to ensure our beneficiary families remain at the heart of everything we do.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to all those who we support. You will receive a full induction to the role and the chance to develop and gain new skills.  You do not need prior board experience as you will be assigned a mentor to enable you to develop an all-round knowledge of the charity sector – what is most important is an enthusiasm and drive to support our beneficiaries whilst ensuring the charity is fulfilling its legal obligations and adhering to good charity governance. In addition, you will become part of a friendly team of staff and volunteers.

The role of a Trustee is purely a voluntary one and we understand that applicants may have other demands on their time. As such we aim to be as flexible as possible in working around those commitments. (Trustees meet 4 times a year in the evenings, in person or on-line and fulfil other obligations as part of the Charity’s sub-committees).

We serve families from all backgrounds and welcome applicants who have a wide variety of ‘life’ experiences and characteristics to reflect the diversity of our beneficiaries.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
