Parents Project Volunteer Advocate
the elfrida society

Job Description

During the COVID-19 emergency lockdown our services have been more crucial than ever. Elfrida is fully set up and equipped to offer remote and in person high-quality advocacy and support to parents with learning disabilities and their families.

Do you have some time to spare and a commitment to working and supporting people with learning disabilities? We are looking for volunteers to join our team to help run sessions and offer advocacy support.

The Parents Project works with parents with learning disabilities and learning difficulties. Parents with learning disabilities want to improve their parenting skills as well as to learn about working with schools, how to recognise medical needs for their children and understand social worker concerns. The aim is to increase confidence in communicating theirs and their children’s needs.

Peer support groups offer parents with LD’s the opportunity to discuss ways to broaden their support networks and create opportunities to support theirs and their children's economic development.

We are looking for a couple of volunteers to support group facilitation and to offer one to one advocacy support.

Applicants must be:

• Over 18 years of age

• Friendly and approachable

• Good at communicating and listening

• Able to volunteer for 2 - 4 hours on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.

Please note we will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for all successful applicants.
