Job Description

Living with cystic fibrosis can bring extra costs, so we provide financial support including dedicated benefits advice and a range of welfare grants for people with cystic fibrosis and their families. The Welfare Officer will act as a first point of contact for people in financial need, looking at income maximisation and signposting to internal and external information and support resources as appropriate. They will also work with the Trust’s Welfare & Rights Advisor to capture and analyse the reach and impact of our benefits advice service.

Main Duties:

  • Working alongside the Helpline Officers, deal with helpline enquiries from people who are in financial difficulty, want to apply for a grant, or need benefits advice, prioritising appropriately and ensuring access to the services needed.

  • Provide a holistic, sustainable and empowering approach to financial support and income maximisation, supporting people to access our grants and benefits advice and signposting to other services as appropriate

  • To provide information on welfare benefits, identifying where detailed advice is needed and collating all information needed for a referral to the Welfare and Rights Advisor.

  • Providing administrative support to the Welfare and Rights Advisor –organising referral forms, taking initial enquiries via our helpline (phone, email and online channels), carrying out follow up contact to evaluate the service

  • Coordinate data collection on uptake and outcomes of the welfare rights advice service, to demonstrate impact

  • Deal with enquiries promptly and sensitively, with an understanding of the emotional toll that financial worries can take.

  • To provide ad-hoc support in answering calls to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust helpline (full training and support will be provided).

  • To provide ad-hoc administrative support to the welfare grants programme (full training and support will be provided).
