Job Description

If you want to make a positive difference to the lives of children, adults and their familes who are affected by a rare health condition, and who face many challenges and barriers every day, this is a fantastic chance to join our passionate team at the AT Society, a small charity with a national remit.

You will be committed to our values and share our vision that every person affected by AT has access to high quality treatment, information, advice and support. You will be able to think strategically and practically about the challenges and opportunities the organisation may face, whilst also providing leadership, scrutiny and support.

The Board normally meet quarterly in person, although throughout the pandemic the meetings have moved to being online and have been more regular, given the increased challenges the pandemic has posed. Your role will be key in supporting our frontline services and research as well as carrying out the normal functions of a trustee, such as ensuring the charity carries out good governance and maintains its core mission. In addition to the statutory duties, you will be asked to use any specific skills, knowledge or experience you have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions, which will ideally be around safeguarding, HR, and/or charity law.

Individuals with a good knowledge of the charity sector and health and social care sector would be an advantage.

Previous Board experience is not necessary, but an understanding of, or a willingness to train in the principles of good governance in the charity sector is essential.

The expected time commitment is approximately 2 - 4 hours per month on average, to include taking part in Board meetings, preparation for meetings, being a member of a sub-committee, and being involved in occasional projects and Board correspondence.

The Board is particularly interested to hear from candidates from under-represented groups including: women, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, disabled people and young people.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
