Are we looking for you?

We are seeking an exceptional Executive Director to lead the Angelou Centre as we embark on our next exciting phase of development. You will provide inspirational leadership to our staff and volunteers and be an ambassador and champion for the Angelou Centre locally, regionally and nationally, developing new opportunities and partnerships for the Centre. To be our next Executive Director you will be a consultative and collegiate leader bringing a high level of passion, personal integrity and emotional intelligence to the role. You must be committed to the ethos and values of the Angelou Centre and have a track record of working in a feminist, anti-racist, women-centred way to promote and support intercultural and interfaith communities. You will demonstrate evidence of strategic leadership, ideally in a time of change, and a track record in influencing policy and effecting change.

The Angelou Centre is a well-established specialist black-led feminist organisation, managed and led by and for black and minoritised women and girls, to advance human rights, equality, inclusion, empowerment and independence by providing advocacy; information and advice; training; social/recreational activities and events; accommodation; counselling and therapeutic support. Based in Newcastle, we use a holistic approach to promote empowerment through a team of multilingual and culturally competent workers and volunteers. The organisation remains unique as one of the few remaining ‘black-led’ women's organisations in the North East of England providing specialist support for black and minoritised women and children.

Due to the nature of our work the post is open to women only (exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1). We particularly welcome applications from black and minoritised women.
