Job Description

St Gregory's Foundation is looking for a  new Treasurer to oversee the finances of our small charity working with disadvantaged children  in Russia and Georgia.

The Treasurer is one of eight Trustees/Directors of the charity. The Treasurer’s role is both hands-on role and a strategic one.

The Board of Directors meets 4-5 times a year in London and the Treasurer is expected to attend these meetings and prepare financial reports for them. In strategic terms, the Treasurer’s role is to have responsibility for financial overview and planning, and to take part with other directors in the process of creating the budget and reporting against budget objectives. These duties can be assumed gradually as the new Treasurer will be trained and supported by previous Treasurers who are still involved with the charity.

Hands-on approach includes keeping all financial records on the Quick Books management system, which enables us to analyse donations and is an essential tool for assessing the success of fundraising initiatives, budget planning and the preparation of the annual accounts. This also includes the bookkeeping for the charity and full responsibility for all banking activities.

The role is well supported by our Executive Secretary who is a paid employee. Her pay and pensions are calculated by a pay roll service; the pension contributions are paid by direct debit, but the Treasurer will make the BACS transfers for her pay and expenses. We have also employed two people on a freelance basis to assist the Executive Secretary: the Treasurer will make the transfers for their fees.

No knowledge of Russian is needed but experience and an interest in fundraising could be a benefit as is an interest in child welfare internationally.
