We are looking for highly motivated and resilient individuals with a relevant qualification or mental health experience and a desire to work in one of the largest Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services in the country. You will work with patients with mild to moderate depression and anxiety.  We need people with energy and enthusiasm, who are flexible in their approach and can work well as part of a large, busy team in a high-volume service and demanding environment, whilst studying for their PWP qualifications.

We are offering one-year traineeships to Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, starting in September 2021.  PWP Trainees will work within the italk service for Solent Mind providing Step 2 interventions in the form of 1–1 telephone appointments, face to face, webinars, group and on-line support for people with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. You will receive employment and a full salary, as well as one year of high quality evidence-based training at the University of Southampton.

  • You will need recent experience of working with people with mental health problems.
  • You may be a graduate (or equivalent) level in a relevant profession, or have acquired good practical experience of mental health work with evidence of recent relevant study (those without the required level of qualification would need to demonstrate that they could fulfil the academic component of the role prior to being offered a post. We are planning a separate recruitment route this year for those without graduate level qualifications. The advert for this is likely to go up in a couple of weeks).

In addition to the requirements in the Person Specification, candidates will have to satisfy the University that they are capable of completing the academic component of the training, alongside working within the service.

You will be based in one of 3 hubs across Hampshire:  West (Eastleigh); East (Gosport); North (Basingstoke).

At italk we take pride in our practitioners and do our best to look after their wellbeing at all times. Each staff member is encouraged to complete a wellness action plan as they join the team, and is invited to attend a fortnightly wellbeing group with their colleagues to encourage connectedness to the team.

All staff have access to the Solent Mind online wellbeing platform and free 24/7 support via our Employee Assistance Programme as well as regular supervision with a senior practitioner. We believe that we need to look after ourselves in order to best support our patients and welcome new team members with the same philosophy.

Interviews will be split into two parts. The first part will take place in the weeks commencing 07 June 21 and 14 June 21, and successful candidates will be invited to a second stage of interview in the week commencing 28 June 21. The post will start on 13 September 21 and the University starting date is 27 September 21.
