Job Description

Sheffield Students’ Union exists to represent, support and enhance the lives of our members and to do this we employ outstanding, committed staff.  We are independent of the University but maintain close working relationships with them to ensure our students have the best possible experience.  Working with our student officers, all staff work to support the student body and we represent their interests to the University, within the city and where necessary on a national level. We’ve been rated the best Students’ Union in the UK by the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey for ten years running!

The Role

This is a time of growth for Sheffield Students’ Union, as we recruit our first Governance & Compliance Lead to support our ongoing work developing and embedding governance and legal compliance frameworks across the organisation.

You will play a key role in reviewing and shaping our frameworks, policies  and procedures, ensuring these are robust, compliant and appropriate to support the Ours for Life Strategy and to meet our commitments to members and stakeholders.  You will develop and coordinate governance & Trustee policy, procedure and practice, lead on disclosure, discipline and complaints procedures within the SU and ensure compliance on other specific regulatory activity. You will be a point of expertise for our Trustees and for staff at all levels of the organisation, supporting and guiding them to ensure consistency is applied in all areas.

An experienced Governance professional, you will have a track record of delivering effective governance activity within charitable/not for profit organisations.  Whilst not essential that you have worked in a member led organisation, you will have an understanding of working within a democratic environment and managing the expectations of multiple stakeholders. Highly organised, you will need to be able to deliver at pace, work independently, effectively and proactively.

In return we can offer you opportunities to develop your skills through related training, flexible working arrangements, and a friendly, inclusive working environment. We will play our part in proactively removing barriers. We believe that diversity in all its forms positively impacts our working environment and drives the success of the organisation
