Job Description

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund is the RAF’s leading welfare charity and seeks to understand and meet the welfare needs of those in the RAF Family, from those currently serving in the RAF and their families through to veterans of all ages. This is achieved through the delivery of a wide range of services, initiatives and programmes which last year helped over 55,000 individuals.

The Head of Governance plays a key role in ensuring that the Charity meets its responsibilities relating to good governance, accountability, and compliance. They provide support to our Board, our trustees, our staff, and our Senior Management Team on governance and decision making, contract management, internal audit, business planning, and policy development.  The individual will be at the heart of ensuring that the Fund has efficient and effective working practices.

We are seeking a professional and highly credible individual who will possess excellent interpersonal communication and written communication skills and can act with authority and independence, providing a check and balance at all levels of the organisation.

The individual must demonstrate that they have experience in leading a Governance function, preferably within a charity environment and that they are able to provide expert advice on the Charity’s legal and regulatory obligations and governance arrangements. The individual should be a self-starter with high levels of personal initiative, resilience, and drive.

The successful candidate will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

The post holder will be primarily based at our HQ, with suitable flexibility to work from home as agreed with the Director of Resources.
