Trustees & Advisory Committee Members
princess alice hospice

Job Description

We are looking for dedicated, passionate people to join our Board as a trustee or to be an advisor on one of our Board committees. As a trustee or advisory committee member, you will play an essential role in the success of our charity, using your skills and experience to help set our strategic direction and ensuring the good governance of the organisation.

WHO WE ARE:

Princess Alice provides outstanding palliative and end of life care in our Hospice and in the community for parts of Surrey, south west London and Middlesex.  We share our knowledge and expertise through our education and research programmes. Through volunteer networks, we build and nurture compassionate communities - so that everyone is better supported as they face death, dying, grief and loss. Our team of staff, volunteers and supporters are positive, passionate and professional.  We believe that end of life care is about living - helping people live every moment to the full, in comfort and dignity. It’s about creating a space, whether in our hospice or at home, where families and friends can enjoy special moments and make precious memories.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We are looking for people who share our values and want to give their time and skills to an innovative leading Charity, which is making a difference. You don’t need to have been a trustee before, but energy, enthusiasm and commitment is vital. To fill skills gaps on our Board and Committees, we are particularly looking for people with a background and experience in digital/technology to enable health care; legal/governance; finance; and healthcare/clinical commissioning.

We are committed to improve the diversity of our Board and our committees, and encourage applications from under-represented groups and from those with lived experience or early in their career.

TIME COMMITMENT:

Trustees – who have often started by serving as an advisor on one of our Board committees – are expected to attend up to 6 Board meetings a year and may also sit on one of our committees.

Advisory committee members will need to be able to attend between two and five meetings a year, depending on the committee they join.

In addition, advisory members and trustees will be expected to attend our annual strategy day.

All our meetings take place in the evening at our Hospice in Esher. The initial commitment is for a period of two years.

WHY BECOME A TRUSTEE OR COMMITTEE MEMBER?

These are voluntary, unpaid roles (although we do cover reasonable expenses) where you will be able to use your professional and life experiences to make a significant contribution to the strategy and success of an outstanding and ambitious organisation, making a real difference to the lives of patients, their families and carers. You'll join a trustee team with a vast amount of personal and professional experience across a range of fields and have the opportunity to engage with our compassionate and inspirational people. You will be able to develop your board room skills and understanding of Charity governance, as well as learning more about the vital work of our Hospice.

Open Evening: Tuesday 24th March (6pm to 8pm)

Closing Date:  6th April

Interview Dates: Saturday 25th April and Saturday 2nd May
