Job Description

Perpetrator Officer

35 hours

Salary £24,042 Per annum

The Perpetrator Officer will be based at Phoenix House, Blaina, but will be required to work throughout the Gwent borough to further develop and deliver interventions to male and female perpetrators of domestic abuse.

Responsibilities and tasks

The Perpetrator Officer’s duties are to:

  • Deliver the Perpetrator Programme to perpetrators of domestic abuse.

This includes both assessment work and facilitating group sessions, including evening sessions. Support with the planning of the programme and undertaking work as necessary to maintain the Respect accreditation, by pooling best practice evidence and developing resources

  • Develop and maintain effective working links with key partners and services to encourage referrals into the service and joint working.
  • Assess the needs and dynamic risks of victims of domestic abuse and their children, carry out short and long term risk management, safety planning, identify and refer to services appropriate to their needs, including attendance at Child Protection Case Conferences and MARAC as required. Work in partnership with other members of staff and colleagues in external agencies to ensure that the safety of children and victims is paramount.
  • Advise perpetrators and families affected by domestic abuse of their rights and options for seeking help and support from other agencies, making referrals and coordinating provision of multi-agency support where necessary, proactively advocate, ensuring barriers to accessing support and protection are minimised.
  • Support the management team and administrators to monitor outcomes, and keep them informed of any issues and successes.
  • Ensure that agreed case recording and monitoring systems are kept up to date and secure, and write internal and external reports where required, including for safeguarding conferences, team meetings, managers and others.
  • At all times protect the safety and security of Phoenix DAS, service users, staff, volunteers and buildings, and the confidentiality of records and other information.
  • Actively participate in ongoing supervision and team meetings as required.
  • Be responsible for personal learning and development by keeping up to date with research, legislation, policy and practice, and other literature relevant to the project.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of Phoenix DAS’ Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and other policies and procedures, and uphold the core values of Phoenix DAS.
  • Work across teams and undertake other such duties, appropriate to the grade and character of the work, as may reasonably be expected.

Other Opportunities within the service

The Perpetrator Officer will have the opportunity to work extra hours and be involved in the income generation for Phoenix DAS this can include;

  • Deliver training for groups and organisations, raising awareness of domestic abuse and the services provided by Phoenix DAS. Provide guidance for partner agencies that work with perpetrators or families affected by domestic abuse, to enable them to identify and support those affected by domestic abuse and ensure that their responses and interventions are safety focused.
  • The post-holder will be encouraged to attend relevant training courses

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • A recognised professional qualification in a related field, such as Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Teaching, Probation Service or NLP (Desirable).

Experience:

  • Experience of working with challenging individuals, offenders or perpetrators of domestic abuse (Essential)
  • Experience of using motivational work with individuals to empower change (Essential)
  • Experience of developing and running group programmes (Desirable)

Knowledge:

  • Clear understanding of the impacts of domestic abuse (Essential)
  • Knowledge of services and other organisations in Gwent and surrounding area (Desirable)
  • Geographic knowledge of the Gwent area (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of child protection and adult safeguarding procedures (Essential).
