Are you passionate about making a difference and are looking for an exciting opportunity to add value to a local charity?

We are Mosaic 1898 LTD, a long-standing disability charity based in Leicester and Leicestershire. We are at an exciting and challenging time, with a renewed focus on our purpose to reach more disabled people with the support and services they want and need – something we have been committed to for over 120 years. We are now looking to add to the expertise and experience of our Board of Trustees and hope to find people as passionate about making a difference as we are to help shape the future of the organisation. 

Previous experience of charity is not essential, but it is important that you have a genuine interest in our work in enhancing the lives of disabled people in our local community.

Person Specification

We are particularly keen to recruit people to govern our charity and contribute to the leadership and direction who are:

• disabled or who have experience of supporting a person with a disability

• willing and committed to be active, engaged, and collaborative

• independent and exercise sound judgement and challenge

• familiar with understanding and interpreting financial and other data

• commercially aware with experience of Strategy, Governance, and Compliance

You will be expected to attend six board meetings a year, the meetings run for an average of two hours. You will have the opportunity and may be required to contribute time outside the meetings on outcome-focused projects.

Mosaic 1898 LTD is a registered charity operated as a Company Limited by Guarantee. The Board of Directors of the company are also trustees of the charity. The Board is responsible for setting the strategy and policies of Mosaic 1898 LTD and guides and supports the Chief Executive and their staff.

The Role

Our trustees, as voting members of the Board, are responsible for the holistic governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the charity's aims, objectives and outcomes in-line with its governing documents, legal and regulatory guidelines and monitoring its performance and impact.

The Main Responsibilities

• To determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.

• To ensure the charity and its representatives’ function within the legal and regulatory framework governing its activities.

• To maintain and develop the charity’s standing, reputation, and influence in the communities it serves.

The Main Duties

• To contribute actively to the Board's purpose in supporting strategic direction, setting overall policy objectives, defining goals, setting targets, and evaluating performance and outcomes.

• To ensure that Mosaic 1898 complies with its governing documents, and charity law, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

• To ensure that appropriate arrangements and good governance are in place for Mosaic 1898 LTD to deliver its objects. Extending to appointing, supporting, monitoring, and reviewing the effectiveness of the charity’s Chief Executive.

• Maintain sound financial governance of the charity's resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the charity’s objects, and investment activities meet obligatory standards and policies.

• To ensure that the property, assets, and people of Mosaic 1898 LTD is properly protected, managed, and safeguarded.

• To safeguard the good name and values of the charity.

• To maintain confidentiality, disclose any conflicts of interest and abide by professional standards and the charity’s code of conduct.

In addition to the primarily statutory duties and responsibilities, a trustee should apply all their relevant expertise, knowledge, and experience to support the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. You may be required to take away key actions, lead on important issues and tasks, or provide topic-focused guidance and advice.
