Job Description

MONTAGE THEATRE ARTS IS SEEKING UP TO TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS!

Join an exciting and expanding youth performing arts charity as a member of our Board of Trustees. MTA uses the transformative power of the performing arts to enrich and enhance young (and older) people’s lives in the boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich, and Southwark.

Established in 1998, and registering as a charity in 2004, MTA has an impressive reputation for offering excellent and vital opportunities and continues to help people from highly deprived areas acquire techniques and skills, develop confidence and social ability, whilst also breaking down barriers between cultural groups and generations.

The organisation is now seeking to complement their existing Board with two new Trustees. Our current trustees are professionals from a variety of industries who fully support the work undertaken by the charity and are encouraged to play a full part in the vibrant life of the organisation.

MTA welcomes applications from a variety of backgrounds, but specific knowledge and experience within one, or more, of the following fields would be beneficial to the organisation:

  • Setting targets, monitoring, and evaluating performance and programmes in commercial and non-profit organisations
  • Legal matters
  • Fundraising
  • Recruitment and personnel management, including a knowledge of employment legislation
  • Public relations
  • Marketing
  • Campaigning
  • Education and learning
  • Social Care and Child Protection

DUTIES:

The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisations aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

Trustees report to the Chair and other Trustees, who meet 4 – 6 times a year.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the following skills, experience, and personal qualities:

Essential

· A commitment to the organisation and its objectives

· Enthusiasm for the work of the charity

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Committed to MTA’s child welfare and safeguarding practices

· Positive and creative approach to problem-solving

· An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

· Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee

· Strategic vision

· Good, independent judgment

· Willingness to speak their mind

· An ability to work effectively as a member of a team

Desirable

· Experience sitting on a Board of Trustees

·  Knowledge of, interest in and/or experience within the creative industries
