Job Description

LawWorks (the Solicitors Pro Bono Group) is a charity which enables access to justice by encouraging and supporting legal pro bono in England and Wales. We work primarily with solicitors, law schools and law students, and other legal and non-legal volunteers and organisations.

Programme Officer (Legal) – Not-For-Profits Programme (part-time)

£13,772 (£27,544 full time equivalent)

Hours: 17.5 hours per week

Our Not-For-Profits Programme facilitates the provision of free legal advice (pro bono) for small charities and not-for-profit organisations, supported by volunteer lawyers from among LawWorks’ members. The team assess and process applications for legal assistance and place the cases with the volunteer lawyers.

The pro bono volunteers advise on a range of legal issues, including property, employment, tax, corporate and commercial matters. Work by the volunteers can include drafting a contract, reviewing a lease or clarifying rights in a dispute. The free legal advice makes a difference to hundreds of charities and not-for-profits.

The Programme Officer (Legal) works closely with the Head of Not-For-Profits and Secondary Specialisation and a Programme Officer (Legal) colleague, to ensure that the programme's services are delivered effectively to its stakeholders (small not-for-profit organisations on the one hand, and member law firms and in-house legal teams on the other).

The position will suit someone with legal knowledge and strong relationship-management skills, who is interested in the legal and not-for-profit sectors and enjoys working in a busy and small team. The role offers the right candidate valuable experience, variety, intellectual stimulation, and job satisfaction.

LawWorks is a relatively small organisation with 23 staff, including staff based in Wales and in the English regions. We are a busy and (for our size) complex charity, with a friendly team, a positive ethos, and a commitment to ensuring that LawWorks is a strong and efficient organisation and a great place to work.

In addition to encouraging and supporting pro bono delivery, we also work to address barriers to justice and to provide a 'policy voice' for pro bono.

More information about the role and how to apply is available on the LawWorks website.

The deadline for applications is 5.00pm Monday 4th October.

LawWorks is an equal opportunities employer. We encourage applications irrespective of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
