Job Description

KCIL is a well-established charity (formed in 1968) supporting disabled people living, working and studying in Kingston. We are the only pan-disability organisation in the borough. We empower our service users to live independently in the community. This may be through supporting them to use their Personal Budget or Direct Payment, or by helping people to recruit a Personal Assistant to help with their everyday living requirements. We offer our users regular newsletters and social events as well as a Befriending service, which aims to alleviate isolation, particularly during the pandemic. Our Special Educational Needs Broker works with children and families across Kingston and Richmond. 

If you volunteer with us as a Trustee, you will be supporting the CEO to secure additional revenue streams, including fundraising, to ensure the financial security of the charity.

 Our ideal volunteer would be:

A professional in the field of finance with personal experience of disability.

KCIL holds 4-6 trustee meetings a year including AGM and annual conference. We would ask that you commit to volunteering 2 hours of your time each meeting. Where required, we can make arrangements for telephone conferences to be held. Currently, we have adapted by holding all Board meetings online via Zoom due to Covid-19. From June 21 we hope to resume face to face meetings in a central Kingston location. There are also opportunities through the year for trustees to support us by volunteering at events.

Trustees can access training to support them to develop in their role. We have a very experienced and committed board of trustees. If you’ve not been a trustee before, then our board members will be on hand to provide mentoring and support not just at induction but ongoing during your time with us.
