Job Description

A great opportunity to work as part of a small team in a new role, the Policy Officer will play a key part in contributing to the research, production, delivery and dissemination of our positions on issues relating to kidney health. The successful candidate will assist Kidney Care UK in its work to support kidney patients in line with our campaigns.

About you

The ideal candidate will be passionate about health and social welfare, with some experience in research and analysis on health or social issues. Articulate, numerate and analytical, the role holder will need demonstrable experience of conducting analysis, writing, and editing reports for publication.

Please note that flexible working hours and regular travel to London will be required.

Core tasks and responsibilities

• Develop work programmes and undertake projects to explore policy issues under the guidance of the Policy Director • Support the development and dissemination of policy positions • Undertake desk-based research involving data collection and the synthesis of information from relevant sources • Produce policy papers, speeches, briefings, presentations, submissions and major reports. • Identify, monitor and evaluate areas and consultations to which Kidney Care UK may wish to respond • Prepare responses to relevant consultations and legislation • Contribute to identifying new data sources for Kidney Care UK • Support the Communications team with the identification, verification and development of key themes, messaging, facts and statistics for use in internal and external materials • Maintain a high level of awareness relating to the health and social welfare sector • Maintain a positive relationship with the policy and communications consultancy • Represent the charity at occasional meetings and events.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience needed

Essential: Educated to degree level or equivalent experience, experience in conducting analysis and writing and editing reports for publication, work experience in a similar position, knowledge of the health sector, highly organised, with the ability to work to deadlines under pressure, excellent written and verbal communication skills, highly numerate, comfortable with managing and interpreting data, good command of Microsoft Office, excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills including the ability to be diplomatic and deal with stakeholders tactfully and effectively, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, flexible approach to working patterns.

Desirable: Post graduate degree in a relevant subject, awareness of governance/public policies and the UK political system, experience in the thematic areas of participation, rights, democracy, health, and/or welfare.
