Job Description
The Campaign and Community Organiser position will be based with Rugby Foodbank, which is part of the work of the wider charity Hope4 (Rugby) Ltd and will be working across all Trussell Trust foodbanks in Warwickshire to bring grass roots community change. This new role offers an exciting and challenging job opportunity to build and deliver local campaigning strategies in and with Warwickshire food banks. This post is funded by the Trussell Trust as part of their Organising Programme.
Our Values: Compassion, Respect, Integrity, Faith and Community
Reporting to: Hope4’s Service Delivery Manager
Location: County wide, Rugby based one day per week minimum at Rugby foodbank's office, with working from home optional.
The creation of a Campaigns and Community Organiser is both a new role and new approach to achieving change. This will involve building the capacity of local communities and identifying and developing leaders. It is about bringing together those affected by social injustice. We want to empower people locally by working with those affected by social injustice, including those that turn to our food banks for support, to help get their voices heard.
You will engage with food banks and food support organisations across Warwickshire to learn about the underlying reasons people are using foodbanks. You will build relationships with people who turn to food banks and other food support groups, plus the support group’s volunteers and staff in order to understand the local drivers of poverty.
You will develop and deliver community engagement activities, including awareness raising workshops, listening exercises, and other community organising activities, to build people’s skills and confidence to try and influence local decision makers. The Organiser will also work closely with a number of county wide groups that are already working on issues of food poverty and social justice building partnerships and collaborative campaigns. For example, Hope4 is already a part of the Warwickshire Food Strategy group, and this post holder will continue to foster this already well-established link. The post holder will then represent the wider cluster of food banks across Warwickshire and will engage with the media.
You do not need to have professional experience of community organising or campaigning, but you need to have the passion and proven skills to build positive relationships with people from all walks of life and campaign for change.
You will be the link between Warwickshire food banks and the Organising and Local Mobilisation team at Trussell Trust, as we build a movement to end the need for food banks.
Rugby Foodbank opened in 2012 and distributes around 7500 food parcels a year. It is part of the respected Trussell Trust network of UK food banks.
