Job Description

Hibiscus Initiatives (Hibiscus) is a passionate, women-centred organisation, delivering high impact advocacy and advice services to Black, minoritised, and migrant women at the intersection of the criminal justice and immigration systems.

We are looking for two passionate, empathetic, well-organised and resilient individuals to join our team as Project Workers in the International Resettlement Detention Services team in Derwentside IRC. We are interested in applications from candidates who are motivated and passionate about the rights of individuals faced with having to leave the UK, with the ability to manage and direct key service delivery initiatives and projects within set timescales, and who have the knowledge and experience of working in either a prison or immigration removal centre or supporting refugees/undocumented migrants.

The successful candidate(s) will help provide vital support to women resident within the female detention centre. Our clients face unique challenges during their time in detention and represent some of the most vulnerable and marginalised groups in society.

You will provide one-to-one support, advocacy, advice and guidance, empowering women to overcome the barriers they face and move forward with their lives.  You will be working collaboratively with various agencies to care for and support women’s needs.

As an organisation working on racial and gender justice and migrants’ rights, Hibiscus is particularly keen to attract talent from minoritised communities and those with lived experience of immigration restrictions, the criminal justice systems, or gender-based violence.

We are committed to the wellbeing and development of our staff. We provide regular training and other learning opportunities and offer wellbeing classes and activities, clinical supervision, an Employee Assistance Program and other benefits to support staff wellbeing.

This post is restricted to women only as a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9 paragraph 1, Equality Act 2010.

Please note: Successful candidates will need to have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years to ensure the clearance process is authorised.

We have TWO available roles
Project Worker (IRCs) and Project Worker - Specialist Welfare Services (SWS)

To apply for either or both rolesplease download the Job Description(s) below and carefully read through the information provided regarding the role and person specification.

Closing date
9am on Thursday 28 February 2022

Interviews
Interviews are held on a rolling basis.

Please note that we may close either or both vacancies early if suitable candidates are found and/or a sufficient number of candidates have applied. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.

If we receive applications from more suitable candidates than we have vacancies for at this time, we may hold suitable applicants on a reserve list for 12 months, and future vacancies requiring the same skills and experience could be offered to candidates on the reserve list without a new competition.
