Chief Executive Officer
heritage trust for the north west

Job Description

Heritage Trust for the North West seeks to appoint an exceptional candidate to the position of Chief Executive Officer.

This is an excellent opportunity to lead one of the UK's largest and the North West's key heritage and building preservation trusts through the next phase of its development.

If you are adaptable, creative, a strategic thinker, business-minded, skilled at prioritising, a passion for heritage and building conservation and with the broader skills to lead an organisation, we would like to hear from you.

As the only regional Trust dedicated to conserving cultural and building heritage, we aim to ensure the sustainable management of our existing portfolio and restore and find appropriate new uses for buildings at risk in the North West.

You will engage your outstanding leadership skills and adopt a culture of openness, trust and delegation. You will also utilise your strong business and financial skills to tackle the charity's considerable challenge of establishing firm foundational footings. You will be the main driver in continuing the Trust’s journey from a historical reliance on grant income to a more sustainable, business-focused and cost-centred operation.

This is a stimulating opportunity for a proven, highly skilled and effective leader to take forward our heritage organisation, building upon the recognition achieved to date.

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic leader from the heritage or conservation sector. You will need to be able to show resilience and thrive under pressure.

This is not a nine to five role, and with a wide range of skills in your toolkit, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience...

  • An understanding of sustainable business operations
  • Understanding the challenges of balancing visitors with conservation whilst delivering a high-level visitor experience.
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary and high performing teams, including volunteers.
  • You will be a confident communicator, a great listener, an accomplished decision-maker and a natural collaborator with strong coaching and motivational skills.
  • You will be great at building relationships across a broad spectrum both internally and externally, regionally and nationally, with community and commercial partners, stakeholders and consultants.
  • You will balance delegation vs taking ownership whilst having a strong focus on the organisation’s values and objectives.
  • You will be resilient, reflective, with a positive and calm manner, with excellent organisational and IT skills.
  • You will be passionate about heritage in the North West, aiming to develop key historic building conservation sites in the region into sustainable projects.
  • You will also utilise your strong business and financial skills to develop a more sustainable, business-focused and cost-centred operation.
