We are currently working with a leading social, community and welfare charity to help them recruit a number of new Trustees to help them shape the organisation, the strategy and the purpose moving forward. 

Trustees play a vital role in making sure that the charity achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity and ensure that it has a clear strategy and that work and goals are in line with the charity’s vision. Just as importantly, Trustees support and challenge the executive team to enable to grow and through this, achieve its mission.

Responsbilites will include:

  • Support and provide advice on the charity’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
  • Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
  • Oversee  financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
  • Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
  • Review and approve financial statements.
  • Provide support and challenge to the CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
  • Keep abreast of changes in the operating environment.
  • Contribute to regular reviews of the charity’s own governance and attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to  discussions.
  • Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect the charity’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
  • Contribute to the broader promotion of the charity’s objectives, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

Other duties may be required from time to time.

You do not need previous governance experience – full induction and training will be provided.

  • Commitment to selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Knowledge or experience of working in the charitable sector, social community or welfare sectors will be highly beneficial although this is not essential as training will be given. A knowledge of social community transport, social support and social care may also be helpful, along with specailist skills in IT, marketing, HR or Finance.

Time Commitment

The expected time commitment is about 15 days a year.

  • The Board meets 4 times a year, and additionally has an annual planning and Board development   day and a member AGM.
  • Trustees are also encouraged to give their time and skills to one of the Charity’s sub committees, or to   a special project or initiative.
  • An Induction Programme will include  an introduction to the charity and the sector 
  • This is a voluntary position, but expenses are reimbursed
