Tech Network Coordinator - SMS and Inclusive Communications
dignity

Job Description

Helping people connect, communicate and stay in contact with the simplest of technologies.

Our Mission

Dignity exists to bring people to Jesus through community and through this, to eradicate poverty in all its forms. (This includes poverty of spirit, mind, health, community, finances and environment.)

Andrew's Story

After being part of a Life Group I have come to know the word of God which has changed my life. I used to drink a lot. I would beat my wife and would not care for my family. I did not think my marriage was important. I am no longer the same. I am a changed person!
-Andrew, Life Group member & planter, Zambia

Our Values

  • Pioneering: We actively seek out the areas where the church is at its weakest. We create and make available a library of materials, resources and ways of working which are freely available to support those who are becoming involved in God’s mission and plans for communities.
  • People: We go where the Spirit leads us to find the people that God has placed in the communities he wants us to work with. We call these people Oaks of Righteousness (Isaiah 61:3); some of them do not know God yet.  They are the foundation for the work God will do in their community.
  • Working Together: We believe that bringing people of all types together with Jesus and their community is a powerful force for change.  Our principal method of achieving this is through the creation of Life Groups which unify and then enrich their communities.

The Opportunity

Does the idea of making technology work well for people excite you? Are you curious about the role of technology and innovation in supporting community and eradicating poverty? Could you see yourself bringing people from different disciplines and experiences together to discuss, define and deliver technology solutions that support Dignity’s mission as defined above? If so, this is a brilliant opportunity for you to join our team of volunteers and lead one of our Tech Networks. We are not necessarily looking for a seasoned technologist for this role, but we need someone with a passion for people and community, who is able to motivate and justify when and why we use technology for solving community challenges.

The role of Tech Network Coordinator for SMS and Inclusive Communications is focused on developing, coordinating and motivating a team (i.e., a network) of other volunteers with interest, experience and skills in developing and integrating mobile messaging technologies. You will be guided and supported by the Dignity Digital and Operations team. We are initially focused on integrating SMS (Short Message Service) solutions into our comms, as it is a common and pervasive mode of communications throughout sub-Saharan Africa, one of our main community and mission hubs. There is also the opportunity to help us develop and contribute to our technology principle called Least First Design, through publication, practical demonstration, talks and podcasts. Your time and skills will result in people knowing the good news of Jesus and partnering with them against poverty in all of its forms.

Key Responsibilities

The Tech Network Coordinator for SMS and Inclusive Communications will:

  • Maintain and push forward the SMS and Inclusive Communications delivery roadmap, developed together with the Digital and Operations Team
  • Organise and host relevant conversations
  • Update the Digital Lead on progress

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
