derby theatre

Job Description

Derby Theatre goes beyond the expectations of a traditional producing theatre; in addition to creating impressive and acclaimed productions, the theatre plays host to a wealth of learning opportunities through its ground-breaking Learning Theatre model.  Learning is at the heart of the theatre’s vision.

In a unique relationship, students from the University of Derby’s Theatre programmes study in the theatre, learning from our professional staff and putting on productions in a professional environment.

The theatre’s innovative Artist Development scheme – In Good Company – extends learning and development to emerging artists, and our youth theatre programmes and ground-breaking work in a range of communities engage thousands of people of all ages each year in the process of theatre-making.

Since 2015 Derby Theatre has been one of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations, and in April 2018 received an uplift in its core funding of 59% - one of the largest uplifts across the portfolio. In 2017 the theatre won the Clothworkers’ Award at the UK Theatre Awards and in 2019 was named one of five successful bidders nationally to the Arts Council’s Youth Performance Partnerships Fund.
