Social Prescribing Operational Manager

Full-time 37 hours per week

Salary £33,989

Fixed-term contract until September 2021

About Crawley Community Action

Crawley Community Action is a charity which enables and supports volunteers, volunteer groups and charities in and around Crawley. We advocate for the voluntary and community sector with local government and other statutory authorities.  We’ve been supporting Crawley’s community and voluntary sector for 60 years – Crawley Community Action is our new name, demonstrating our commitment to Crawley’s people and communities.

We run Social Prescribing and Befriending services that support hundreds of people a year.  Following a successful pilot in 2016/17, the Crawley and Horsham and Mid-Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group commissioned us to develop and expand ‘Prescription Plus’ across Crawley.  We are now working with the support of the West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group who extended since then and we are now planning towards September 2021.

Following the COVID-19 emergency response, we are resuming our recruitment of a new team. A person centred, collaborative and compassionate approach is at the heart of what we do and we are looking for someone with the right skills and attitude to support clients and manage volunteers in both a clinical setting and in people’s own homes, whilst also working as part of a Borough-wide team of Social Prescriber Link Workers based in our Crawley town centre office.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will manage a frontline social prescribing service, assessing a person’s need and helping them access appropriate groups and services. An experienced support worker, you will have an ability to build instant rapport with clients alongside a pragmatic and proactive attitude that enables people to achieve the goals that matter to them.

This is a terrific opportunity to develop and lead the social prescribing team of an organisation that is delivering community and volunteer support in Crawley. Our recent rebrand has not only given us a fresh new look, but has also helped us rationalise our aims, align our services and further exemplify our values.

Reporting to the Chief Executive (who oversees strategy, development and budget) you will line manage a team of five, liaise with primary care providers, recruit and train staff and volunteers and ensure the service demonstrates exemplary practice that meets service users’ needs. An experienced and proactive team leader, you will have a compassionate and collaborative approach alongside an ability to set clear targets and ensure the team effectively achieves its goals.
