Exciting opportunity to join the Choices Advocacy team

Providing independent advocacy in South Hampshire and Southampton since the 1990s, Choices gives a voice to vulnerable adults and children ensuring they are listened to and involved in decisions and choices about their lives. Our advocacy support enables people to have their rights upheld and be included in their local communities.

The Role 

We are looking for a full time advocate coordinator to join our team to support service user engagement in our new exciting opportunity. You will be supporting service user engagement by face to face outreach as well as developing digital and social media content and platforms.

You will be working with a wide range of people, including those with a learning disability and/or autism, mental health issues, physical and sensory impairments, older people, and children and young people. Your advocacy practice will include 1:1 case work, supporting self advocacy groups and person centred or life planning. 

About You 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person who is passionate about giving people a voice. Previous experience of working with people with disabilities if possible.

You should have strong communication skills and the ability to engage with a wide range abilities and support staff/families.

Familiar with creating digital content and easy read/easy to understand communication. Able to use digital and social media platforms.

You will either already have the Independent Advocacy Award, or be able to complete it within 12 months of starting your employment with support from us. You will have good written and verbal communication skills, and good IT skills (word and Office 365 are essential). You will be approachable, committed to the values underpinning advocacy and able to stay within the boundaries of your various advocacy roles.

You will be based in the Southampton office although flexible working will be considered due to the nature of this outreach work. Regular travel throughout the Hampshire area is required so a driving licence and access to your own transport is essential. The role is subject to enhanced DBS and Eligibility to Work checks.
