Regional volunteer lead
care4calais

Job Description

About Care for Calais:

Care4Calais is a volunteer run charity delivering essential aid and support to refugees living in Northern France, Belgium and the UK. We believe in a fair and tolerant British society and advocate for a welcoming and inclusive attitude towards refugees.

In summer 2020, Care4Calais expanded its actions across the UK, supporting thousands of asylum seekers in government funded accommodation. From access to medical care and legal aid, to a change of clothes and a friendly face, volunteers have come together in many regions across the country to promote a welcoming and inclusive society for refugees.

The Regional Lead Role:

As a Regional Lead, you would work remotely for a defined region, acting as a point of contact between volunteers and Care4Calais UK Operations team. Working remotely mainly through Facebook/Whatsapp groups, Google Drive, and Zoom, your primary function is to motivate, inspire and support volunteers to take actions. These actions include distributions of essential aid to asylum seekers, joining in and organising social activities, and befriending and supporting asylum seekers to access key services.

You would be available to answer questions and provide support to volunteers, and to drive the group forward to achieve maximum impact and effectiveness.  In addition you will be required to respond efficiently to emails relating to your area. This would require regular engagement of up to 1.5 hours per day.

You would represent Care4Calais and acquire an in-depth understanding of its policies and procedures.  You would liaise with other parts of our UK operations, promoting strong communication and rapid action.

For this role, we ask for:

  • The ability to mobilise volunteers and inspire them to take action

  • Strong interest in refugee and asylum work

  • Coordination and facilitation skills

  • Team worker with good communication and people skills

  • Good administration and organisation skills

  • User knowledge of Facebook, Whatsapp, Google (Gmail, Sheets and Docs), and Zoom

  • Previous experience of working with a charity

  • Minimum availability of 1.5 hours a day
