Job Description

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity dedicated to diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by our passionate scientists and supporters, we’re challenging the way people think about dementia, bringing together the people and organisations who can speed up progress, and investing in cutting-edge research. We believe that medical research can and will deliver life-changing preventions, treatments and one day, a cure for dementia. Alzheimer’s Research UK exists to make this happen and with your support, we’ll make life-changing breakthroughs possible.

The Research Informatics team at ARUK is leading the coordination of the Early Detection of Neurodegenerative Diseases (EDoN) initiative. EDoN is a growing and exciting collaboration to create a digital toolkit and machine learning models to enable the detection of specific dementia-causing diseases decades before overt cognitive symptoms become apparent. EDoN brings together experts in data science, digital technology and neurodegeneration from over 49 universities, institutes, research projects, patient cohorts and technology companies from across Europe and the US.

The initiative is delivered through three Hubs - Clinical Hub, Digital Hub and Analytics Hub, along with two cross-cutting workstreams on commercialisation and health system engagement. The Hubs contain multidisciplinary expertise from across universities, cohorts, institutes and research projects, as well as seeking external advisors to support key areas of activity.

The Research Informatics team oversees the smooth running of EDoN, manages and builds relationships with partners and collaborators and looks for new opportunities to add value to the project working in partnership with all of its stakeholders.

The Research Informatics Engagement Coordinator is an excellent opportunity to work in the Research Informatics team to support the EDoN initiative and its partners to achieve their goals. As the Research Informatics Engagement Coordinator, you will report to the Research Informatics Engagement Manager.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

  • Work closely with the Research Informatics team and EDoN scientific teams to build effective relationships with key stakeholders, facilitating collaboration across EDoN and its wider networks, and engaging current and future collaborators to ensure the objectives of EDoN can be met effectively.
  • Work with the Research Informatics Engagement Manager and the Health Technology Analyst in the EDoN Strategic Collaborations team.
  • Identify new strategic collaboration opportunities for EDoN within the digital health, technology, AI and/or research space and facilitate an approach to engage with these stakeholders.
  • Ensure efficient management of stakeholders across EDoN, curating a stakeholder database to ensure streamlined engagement across the Research Informatics team, wider charity and EDoN initiative.
  • Identify potential new funding sources for EDoN and work across the initiative to develop applications to secure funding.
  • Coordinate effective engagement with EDoN collaborators, maintaining strong working relationships, communicating key milestones and progress, and identifying new opportunities for the project.
  • Support the Research Informatics Engagement Manager in engaging with funders, ensuring key funding requirements are met.
  • Coordinate key EDoN activities including organising events, meetings, workshops, training, networking and other activities that drive collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the EDoN initiative.
  • Coordinate the sharing of information, updates and milestones to drive engagement across the EDoN project.
  • Support the development and dissemination of EDoN materials such as publications, portals or shared resources with the wider research community.
  • Identify key conferences or events where EDoN could be represented or that could bring important new knowledge to the project and help facilitate EDoN’s role in these.
  • Support the Research Informatics Engagement Manager to project manage appropriate projects or workstreams related to EDoN.
  • Identify risks, gaps or opportunities, working collaboratively to identify solutions to help EDoN partners achieve their objectives.
  • Represent the Research Informatics team externally, supporting the team to maintain excellent working relationships with external partners and collaborators.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Research Informatics Engagement Manager in line with the responsibilities of the post.
