Head of Finance and Operations
peace direct

Job Description

Peace Direct is an international charity with a big mission: to work with local people to stop violence and build sustainable peace in some of the world's most conflict affected countries. More than that, we want to change the international system so that it better supports the role that local people and communities play in preventing violence and building and sustaining peace.

We are looking for an experienced senior manager to be our new Head of Finance and Operations. The role is varied, demanding and (we think!) rewarding. You'd be responsible for the overall management of Peace Direct's finances, working closely with the CEO and Senior Management Team to help strengthen the financial management of the organisation. You'd also be responsible for leading a small team who are responsible not only for the finances of the organisation but also for its operations, including HR, IT and overall management and information systems. The role is an exciting mix of financial strategy & management, finance, systems improvements, compliance and operations management.

We are looking for a qualified or part qualified accountant, with a strong track record in financial management at a senior level. You will have a solid track record of team and line management, be equally interested in the financial and non-financial aspects of the role (such as HR and Operations) and will bring to Peace Direct a passion and energy for solving problems, communicating effectively, and responding efficiently to a variety of competing demands on your time.

Finally, we are looking for someone who is creative, calm and adaptable even under the most challenging of circumstances. The work we support around the world is based in some of the most volatile contexts, and things often don't go according to plan. We are looking for people who thrive under these situations.

Peace Direct strives to be a diverse and inclusive employer, with equality of opportunities regardless of personal identity, and we are committed to improving our systems and ways of working to support this, including creating a Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) working group, DEI strategy and recruitment guidelines. We strongly encourage individuals from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds to apply, including Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), LGBTQ+, people with disabilities and people with mental health challenges.

The deadline for applications is Monday 3rd January 2022. However, due to the need to fill this post as soon as possible, we will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis, so if you are interested, please apply soon! Only completed applications will be accepted and only applicants with the right to work in the UK will be considered. The application form and Job Description are available on Peace Direct’s website.
