Job Description

We started our Counselling service a number of years ago now and it continues to grow and thrive. Is it led by our Counselling Manager and Clinical Lead and is supported administratively by a Counselling Officer.

We are now looking for a Counselling Co-ordinator to act as a deputy to the Counselling Manager and Clinical Lead to support the service to continue to grow and develop. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to take up the role of Counselling Co-ordinator. You will be dedicated to high quality service provision, drawing on a range of theoretical models and perspectives, offering assessments and therapy to clients with severe and complex mental health problems. Presentations will vary from mild to more severe psychological distress and complexity. Therapists work with people with complex mood problems, trauma and PTSD presentations, psychosis, and complex emotional needs.

You will be joining our friendly, creative, and supportive team and we place a lot of importance on the health and wellbeing of all our staff. There are also opportunities for CPD and networking with various organisations across the community (GP/IAPT other mental health services).

Contract: 12 months with potential for extension. 

Hours: Part-time 15 hours per week. There may be potential for hours to increase as the service grows. Days and times of work are to be agreed with the Counselling Manager and Clinical Lead, some flexibility may be possible.

Location: Richmond AID is based in Teddington in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We would require some home working at present but we do anticipate returning to some face to face delivery soon, in line with government advice on Covid-19, therefore the postholder must be able to commute to the office as required. 

Qualifications and experience

You will be either fully accredited, or in the process of accreditation, with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), NCS (National Counselling Service) or UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy). 

We are looking for someone that has a Supervisor qualification or is interested in training to become a supervisor. Supervision and professional support will be provided by our Counselling Manager and Clinical Lead.

It is essential to have experience of integrative counselling, management and working within an organisational setting, together with a willingness to embrace and develop a broad range of counselling models. The job requires high levels of professionalism and leadership and management skills.

The role will involve

You will be responsible for coordinating a team of volunteer and placement counsellors to deliver the service. You will provide group or individual supervision to volunteer and placement counsellors as required. The service currently offers a blend of online and in person counselling delivered by volunteers who may be working remotely.

You will be responsible for screening and assessing referrals, managing wait lists, and providing psychological consultation to colleagues and other services.

• clients, attracting a wide range of clients with different levels of need, increasing our current numbers
• the wider community including GP practices, health settings, social prescribers, social care, the voluntary and community sector,
• colleges providing therapeutic training for the recruitment of student therapists
