Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Policy Manager with knowledge and experience of policy development, research and analysis particularly in a clinical and health system context. Our dedicated policy and public affairs team works closely with key stakeholders, including government and other decision makers, to shape policy on dementia research and access to future treatments. This is a great opportunity to join our dynamic and well-respected team.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity dedicated to diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by our passionate scientists and supporters, we’re challenging the way people think about dementia, bringing together the people and organisations who can speed up progress, and investing in research to make life-changing breakthroughs possible.

You will be part of an organisation that has been recognised nationally as an outstanding place to work. In 2021, we were listed 69th in the prestigious 100 Large Best Companies to Work For.  We were also awarded a 2-star accreditation by Best Companies, recognising outstanding levels of workplace engagement and were listed in the 75 Best Companies to Work for in the East of England and the Charity’s 30 Best Companies to Work For.

Key areas of portfolio

  • Clinical engagement, including planning our annual clinical conference and health policy horizon scanning and stakeholder engagement activities for our innovative project in early detection (EDoN).
  • Improving diagnostic infrastructure by managing a programme of projects and activities to improve diagnostics for the diseases that cause dementia.
  • Value and affordability of any new treatments for dementia – the role will play a vital part in driving our work to shape how potential treatments will be assessed and reimbursed by the NHS, ultimately ensuring UK patients get fast access to future breakthroughs.

Main tasks of role:

  • Co-ordinating and managing assigned projects within the policy team, gathering and analysing evidence and insight, developing stakeholder relationships and creating appropriate outputs. This may include undertaking or commissioning qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Using the outputs of insight projects to position Alzheimer’s Research UK as a thought leader and enable us to effect positive change.
  • Contributing to a range of submissions to government departments and their agencies, parliamentary committees, and other UK and international organisations as appropriate.
  • Representing ARUK on external working groups and helping to develop partnerships beneficial to ARUK.
  • Supporting the work of Public Affairs colleagues to strengthen existing and emerging relationships with political and other parliamentary stakeholders to maximise the impact of our policy work.

We are looking for:

  • A passionate, proactive and curious policy professional.
  • Someone with experience and knowledge of the UK health system, developed through working within the NHS, third sector organisation or equivalent.
  • Experience and success in policy development and influencing change.
  • The ability to build constructive relationships with stakeholders across multiple organisations, especially within a health or health policy setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with an ability to modify communication style for different audiences to maximise impact.
  • Experience of line management.
  • An adaptable approach that enables us to make the most of opportunities.

Location: Granta Park, near Cambridge.

Salary: Circa £40,000 per annum, plus benefits
