Job Description

Are you passionate about the power of research to change lives? Do you want to inspire, inform, and engage people about the progress being made in dementia research?

We are looking for a confident, creative and proactive individual to join us as Public Engagement Officer. In this role, you’ll work to make dementia research accessible and inspiring to the public through supporting researchers to embed engagement, and delivering online and in-person events and participatory projects. You will help to deliver our Inspire Fund public engagement grants, which provide funding for projects that engage on the topic of dementia and research. Reporting to the Public Engagement Manager, you’ll work with a range of teams across the charity, spotting opportunities and creating tools and activities to increase engagement with dementia research.

The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent experience in life sciences, and a track record in designing, delivering and evaluating successful public events and projects. As a new role at this level, you will have the opportunity to shape it and make a significant contribution to the charity’s public engagement activities.

Main tasks of role:

  • Design, deliver and evaluate public events and projects.
  • Facilitate, train and support dementia researchers to develop and deliver public engagement and involvement.
  • Assist the Public Engagement Manager with running the Inspire Fund grant scheme.
  • Act as a point of contact for dementia researchers and Inspire Fund grant holders, and maintain working relationships with them.
  • Design compelling and innovative activities and resources to support engagement.
  • Assist in the delivery of large-scale public engagement projects and work to promote them and ensure their long-term success.
  • Build partnerships with individuals and organisations to work together to develop new ways to engage the public with research.

What we are looking for:

  • Degree in a life science subject or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating successful public engagement.
  • Experience of discussing health or research matters with the public.
  • Excellent communication skills, including networking and presentation skills with a range of audiences.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with people affected by dementia and their families.
  • An eye for creativity and innovation in public engagement.
  • Experience creating compelling content for digital channels, including web, emails and social media social media.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Negotiating, influencing and problem-solving skills.
  • Developed organisational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • A confident and friendly manner; would feel at ease representing the charity to a range of audiences to a high level.
  • Working with independence, drive and initiative.

Location: Granta Park, near Cambridge.

Salary: Circa £28,000 per annum, plus benefits
