Job Description

We are looking for a motivated, determined and resourceful individual with knowledge of the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector and experience of delivering quality programmes to take our highly regarded CYP services to the next level. The Head of CYP will lead on the development and delivery of our services for children and young people from the age of 5 to 24. 

These services include one-to-one mentoring and counselling support and psychoeducational group programmes, to build resilience and strengthen emotional competence, along with providing safety for children that have witnessed or experienced domestic violence and abuse. In addition the Head of CYP will be responsible for our specialist services for 16-24 year old young women, comprising mentoring, domestic abuse advocacy, psychoeducational groups and supported accommodation.

Our CYP team is made up of talented and committed team members, with experience and qualifications in youth work, teaching, counselling, supporting young people with special educational needs and providing supported accommodation. The Head of CYP will lead and motivate the team, bringing them together to share learning, best practice and to provide training and development opportunities. They will line manage Project Managers who in turn line manage others and are responsible for our primary school services, adolescent services, and accommodation services.

Multi-agency and partnership working is a key part of the role and the Head of CYP will build and develop relationships with external stakeholders including schools, social services and other organisations in the sector. They will represent Rising Sun at local partnership meetings to influence priorities and ensure that domestic abuse is on the agenda.

The Head of CYP will be part of our Senior Management Team (SMT), working alongside the CEO, Head of Adult Services and Head of Income and Partnerships to shape and deliver vital support for survivors. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, manage and develop the Children and Young People team and programmes, ensuring adequate training, case management and supervision, effective assessment of referrals, quality delivery and positive outcomes for service users.
  • Be responsible for Rising Sun’s CYP programmes, including set up, implementation, monitoring, reporting and resource management, as well as managing partner organisations in joint work, in line with the operational plan.
  • Work within our ethos of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at all times and instil these values in all areas of work, with service users, staff and external stakeholders.
  • Be aware of financial budgets for programmes and work within the budget requirements.
  • Set up and oversee the running of our new supported accommodation service for young women, ensuring policies and Health & Safety compliance are in place, with the support of the Housing Support Project Manager.
  • Ensure a holistic, trauma informed, strengths based and needs led approach is embedded in all CYP programmes, and stay up to date with the latest research and best practice in these areas.
  • Work with the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer to review and report on outputs, outcomes and impact of CYP programmes, ensuring feedback forms are completed and our case management database is up to date.
  • Work with survivors, partners and team members to gather and develop case studies and testimonials to demonstrate the impact of the CYP programmes.
  • Build and manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including referrers, delivery partners, other local agencies and partnership groups, taking a lead on effective multi-agency working, identifying opportunities to collaborate and share good practice.
  • Work closely with other SMT members to ensure joined up working across the wider team, enabling us to take a holistic family approach to supporting adults and children and ensure our feminist values are embedded in the organisation.
  • As a member of the SMT support the development and delivery of the charity’s strategic and operational plans, feed into organisation wide discussions and decisions, and be involved in updating policies and procedures.
  • Produce reports for senior management and the Board of Trustees on progress and upcoming activities.
  • Represent Rising Sun at key sector meetings, network events and pitches as required.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for children and young people.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Carry out any other duties that support the growth of the organisation as deemed appropriate.
