About CHAS

We are a small yet highly ambitious charity, and have used the last few years to begin a journey of substantial change and growth. We’ve formalised our internal structures, expanded our staff team and developed a growing portfolio of additional projects and partnerships. CHAS have a special place in Bristol and the local community, offering a high-quality advice service and community partnership projects since 1965.

CHAS offer advice, advocacy and practical, hands-on support to prevent homelessness and keep people in their homes. The need for our service and quality housing advice has never been higher, and it is vital we grow sustainably to play our role in helping Bristol meet this need, maximise our impact and influence real change.

Our values and culture

With dedication and commitment, CHAS work creatively and inclusively to put people first. CHAS empower people to take action, resolve issues and move forward with their lives. We are committed to doing a lot with a little, and driving forward positive change; this feeds into our ethos within the charity and our partnerships.

Within our small team of six, we have a strong culture of mutual support. We have been working remotely during lockdown, but stay in regular contact. CHAS has a flexible working policy so staff organise their working day around core hours. We frequently have interns and assistants working alongside us, driving forward new ideas and projects such as our new digital strategy.

The opportunity

Our Covid-19 response has resulted in a larger staff team, increased project and contract management, more reporting, and ultimately more referrals into the advice service.

A key new funder, Community Justice Foundation, has committed to fund the first 5 months of this post, to ensure CHAS is able to continue responding in a managed way. This key new position will secure the charity's sustainability, while supporting the staff and service to develop and grow.

As CHAS' Operations & Development Lead/ Manager you will be ambitious, passionate and committed, with the energy and experience to play a key role in shaping and influencing the next stage of our development. This is a new position within the charity, inheriting many of the operational responsibilities that currently lie with the Director. There is therefore ample opportunity to shape the role and make it your own.

Working closely with the Director and Advice Service Lead, you will ensure the charity’s day-to-day operations run efficiently as we develop and grow, supporting processes such as IT, quality, finance & reporting; whilst driving change and development within the service. The position will be supported by our team of external consultants (HR, IT, Fundraising) and trustees with specific expertise (including H&S).

About you

We are advertising a Lead/ Manager position, as in addition to relevant experience we are seeking the right energy and enthusiasm to drive forward positive change. You might be a senior manager looking for a new, dynamic challenge, you might be relatively new to management but in possession of the skills and aptitudes to excel in this role.

Either way, you’ll have exceptional communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to thrive in a creative, collaborative and committed team. We are looking for a highly organised and process- orientated person to fulfil this role.
