Job Description

Development & Training Officer(two vacancies)  Field based roles

  • Each Development and Training Officer will be the key contacts for approx. 23 YFC county federations
  • Home based with travel throughout England & Wales
  • Full time (37 ½ hrs per week)  Fixed term of 18 months

The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (England & Wales) [NFYFC] is one of the largest rural youth organisations in the UK.  The organisation provides opportunities for personal development of its members through training programmes, competitions, skills certificates and overseas travel.  This is a democratic membership organisation of approximately 20,000 members in 600 Young Farmers’ Clubs in England & Wales which are grouped in 46 County Federations.

The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs supports the Clubs and County Federations achieve the charity objectives through a range of programmes and training underpinned by youth work principles.  Programmes of work are designed to offer opportunities for participation, learning, fun and personal development to YFC members aged 10 to 26 years and to those supporting them in their roles across England and Wales.

The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) is seeking individuals to play a lead role in supporting and developing YFC county federations.  We have an exciting opportunity for 2x Development and Training Officers with a focus on skills/training, charity governance (including safeguarding) and to undertake policy development on the basis of internal and/or external needs (for example inclusion, e-safety, volunteers policies etc).

The Development and Training Officers are new roles considered essential to communicate and deliver our front-line guidance and support to the YFC workforce, comprising of volunteers and salaried officers of the YFC county federations in England and Wales.

These are dynamic roles giving Development and Training Officers insight into the operational processes of a national organisation working for and with young people.  The Development and Training Officers will collaborate with the YFC county federation workforce and NFYFC HQ staff team on various topics and programmes, especially charity governance (including safeguarding) and identifying training and skills needs followed by the designing of training tools to meet those needs.

Candidates must be adaptable and enjoy responding to the challenges of a busy working environment.  The roles require self-motivation and the commitment to see a project through to completion.  Applicants must be charismatic, dedicated team players who can contribute positively and enthusiastically with a ‘can do’ attitude.

Contracted hours are balanced, there will be some periods that are busier than others, and post holders will average a 37½ hour working week.  Travel throughout England and Wales is a requirement of the roles (company vehicle will be provided) and attendance at national meetings that NFYFC hosts (often in Warwickshire) as well as team meetings at the NFYFC offices, Warwickshire will be required.  Working hours will include evenings and weekends, with some overnight stays essential.

Experience of working with or for a membership organisation will be an advantage.

Posts will be on a fixed term contract of 18 months.
