Job Description

Communities Manager – Part Time
Borehamwood, Hertfordshire (with home working options)

If you have experience of managing volunteers and using communications tools to create a remote community, this is an exciting opportunity to help deliver life-changing support services.

About Us

Ehlers-Danlos Support (EDS) UK provides information, support and guidance to those living with EDS and HSD, a group of connective tissue disorders which affect most of the body and can be extremely challenging to live with.

We work closely with medical and healthcare professionals to increase the understanding of EDS and HSD in UK medical practice, reduce the time to diagnosis and improve knowledge of this condition through research.

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, we have a well-established programme of peer-to-peer support running in our community across the UK.

We’re currently looking for a part-time Communities Manager to join us on a contract until August 2022.

The Benefits

- Salary of £30,690 pro rata (£24,552 per annum)
- Home working options
- Negotiable start and finish times
- Contributory pension scheme

This is a great opportunity to play a vital role in the ongoing success of our peer-to-peer support programme, as you’ll enable our volunteers to realise their full potential and deliver first-class services to individuals with EDS and HSD.

We recognise that people are our greatest asset and we support paid staff and volunteers with high-quality training and development and thoughtful line management.

We pride ourselves on being bold, well-informed and focused and we use our personality to inspire change and benefit all those touched by EDS and HSD. We believe that nobody should be left to fight on their own. If you think you could make a difference as part of our team, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As the Communities Manager, you will help to implement, oversee and evaluate a programme of support, training and development for our network of volunteer Area Co-ordinators.

Supporting the Senior Communities Manager, you’ll enable our Area Co-ordinators to provide the high-quality support our community needs.

Specifically, you will:

- Provide guidance to volunteers through regular one-to-ones/meetings and reactively via email, telephone and social media
- Monitor and administer our closed Facebook groups
- Promote our support groups using our website, Mailchimp, Facebook and other social media platforms
- Help to plan activities and events for our community
- Ensure that we meet National Lottery Community Fund requirements

About You

To join us as a Communities Manager, you will need:

- A track record of using a range of communications tools, including social media, to provide support and information and create and manage a remote community
- Experience of providing support, training and development to a remote team
- Previous experience of managing volunteers in the charity or public sector
- Excellent IT skills
- Strong planning and organisation skills, as well as the ability to pass on information in an understandable and manageable form

Other organisations may call this role Volunteering Manager, Volunteering Support Manager, Peer-to-Peer Support Manager, Community Support Manager, Community Outreach Manager, Peer-to-Peer Project Manager, or Project Manager.

This is a part-time role, working 28 hours per week over four days (between Monday – Friday).

The closing date for applications is the 14th August 2020.
