People Committee Member
peace direct

Job Description

Peace Direct is looking for experienced professionals to join our newly established 'People Committee'.

Peace Direct is an international charity that works directly with local people to stop violence and build sustainable peace. Our vision is a just world free from violent conflict and we passionately believe that local people should be front and centre of the efforts to build peace in their own communities.

We have a big ambition to change the way the international community responds to violent conflicts around the world, as well as to inspire the general public to support the work of local people on the ground who are working tirelessly to build peace. This is a very exciting time for Peace Direct, as we have been growing at a fast pace over the past few years and have launched a new strategy in 2020 which will see us reach more people affected by violent conflict.

The People Committee will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of our HR to ensure that we achieve the highest standards of care and support to staff. The committee is a sub-committee of the Board and will make recommendations to the Board for its review and approval. We are looking for people who have extensive experience of one of more of the following areas:

- Reviewing HR policies and comparing them to sector best practice

- Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

- A deep understanding of, and interest in, the particular HR challenges facing international organisations

- Risk management

- Approaches to reward and recognition for staff

- Legal issues as they relate to charity management, including employment law

- Safeguarding

The People Committee will meet twice a year but is also expected to provide support to the CEO and the Head of Finance and Operations as and when needed.

While this is a voluntary position, we hope all committee members will find it rewarding to help lead our charity to success and greater impact, making a demonstrable contribution to sustainable peace in some of the most conflict affected countries worldwide.

We expect all volunteers and staff to share our values of non-violence, trust and dignity.

Peace Direct strives to be a diverse and inclusive employer, with equality of opportunities regardless of personal identity, and we are committed to improving our systems and ways of working to support this, including creating a Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) working group, DEI strategy and recruitment guidelines. We strongly encourage individuals from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds to apply, including Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), LGBTQ+, people with disabilities and people with mental health challenges.

Interested candidates should send their CV and a covering letter, outlining why they are interested in the role and what experience and insights they would bring to Peace Direct.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
