Thank you for considering to become our new Director. Fulham Good Neighbour Service is a well-loved and respected local charity. It was set up in 1966 but was born out of the Fulham District Nursing Association, established in 1920. Today, Fulham Good Neighbours is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, with seven paid staff members and around 100 volunteers. The charity has won a number of awards, including the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Fulham Good Neighbours support mainly older people, including those with dementia, with a range of services:
Good Neighbour Scheme – practical help at home. We do what any good neighbour would: small DIY, collect medication, escort to appointments, accompany shopping and take care of pets to name just a few of our free services delivered by nearly 100 volunteers, many of whom are older people.

Digital Inclusion for those who are housebound
Gardening and Adopt a Garden scheme

We also offer our hall to other local small groups supporting older people for regular or one-off meetings.
Finally, we organise the Parsons Green Fair - an annual event for the whole community attended by over 9,000 people.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Take responsibility for the successful implementation of the charity's strategic plan
- Initiate new project development for approval by the board of trustees
- Recruit and manage staff
- Ensure staff are supported in their roles and that they meet their targets
- Cover for staff in their absence
- Ensure there are sufficient numbers of active volunteers who are adequately supported
- Promote the organisation, increase its visibility and build relationships with stakeholders
- Provide management, monitoring and evaluation of projects and core activities
- Support the Parsons Fair Committee and Board of Trustees with the organisation and successful implementation of the event.
- In conjunction with the Finance Administrator and Treasurer, monitor all income, expenditure, accounts, funding, investments and budgets
- Nurture existing, and initiate new, funding sources. Maximise other income
- Continue to develop the charity’s IT systems and ensure that it remains at the forefront of technological changes
- Attend board meetings and determine policy in conjunction with the Board of Trustees
- Act as company secretary
- Ensure the charity complies with charity and company law
- Ensure appropriate health and safety policies and practices are in place
- Take responsibility for the security, alarm and daily management of the premises
- Maintain awareness of relevant charitable and local sector issues and trends
- Build and nurture relationships within the local community and with local businesses
- Carry out any other tasks and duties as determined by the Board of Trustees
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential requirements
- Senior management experience within the charity sector or similar
- Experience of working at a senior level with and under the direction of a board of trustees
- Experience in the negotiating, monitoring and reporting on statutory and non-statutory funding
- Financial acumen including financial reporting
- Experience of successfully delivering strategic plans
- Experience in publicity and marketing
- Experience in management of staff and volunteers
Desirable requirements
- Empathy and experience of working with older people
- Knowledge of Sage charity accounting software
- Local knowledge
