Job Description

Roehampton Students' Union is seeking the services of three external Trustees to join the Board at an exciting time for the organisation. Following a period of review, the union is positioned to embark upon a strategic review and consider what direction RSU takes over the next four years. Working in collaboration with other external and student Trustees, the role will help guide and steer the union following a successful period of transition.

The Trustee Board is the governing body of the Charity. The Trustees are responsible for making sure that Roehampton Students’ Union is run effectively, complies with the law, has a strong strategic plan based on members' needs. It is also responsible to making sure the Charity is financially stable.

We would like appointed Trustees to be open to serving a full four-year term. External Trustees can serve for a maximum of two terms. With the term of office much shorter for student and officer trustees, the long-term commitment of external trustees ensures that the union has consistency and stability as it navigates its strategic objectives.

What We Are Looking For

Attendance at Board Meetings

The Trustee Board will meet between four and six times a year. In addition to that it would be valuable if you attended our annual general members meeting where you can meet the part time officers and some students. These meetings can take place in the evening but also all day for more detailed work.

Support Officer Trustees

Outside of board meetings there may be occasions when the Officer Trustees will turn to you for your experience and knowledge.

An involvement with the Union

We would like Trustees to take an active interest in our services, campaigns and events to gain a greater understanding of what we do, how we represent students and celebrate the diversity of our student community.

In your application, it is important to emphasise any knowledge, skills or experience that you may have gained through employment, education or things that you have done in your spare time.

Following a skills audit, we have identified key areas where we would like to strengthen:

Governance

Financial Management and Audit

Charity and Company Directorship

Human Resources

Strategy and Performance
