This may range from hands-on practical volunteering to leading or simply attending guided walks and talks in the park. We want to make the park more attractive to a broader audience, with events ranging from heritage-themed learning activities to family fun days, community picnics and supported events for visitors who have special access needs. All of the activities will make a real difference for the park and will bring benefit to the local community by providing opportunities for people enjoy an improved public space and by promoting more social interaction and engagement in local heritage and the environment.

On a day to day basis, you’ll be:

  • Out and about meeting park visitors, community groups and representatives of a range of organisations.
  • Planning and delivering a programme of events in the park of varying size and type, including setting up and taking down of equipment and materials.
  • Preparing regular promotional and information bulletins/posts for the Trust’s communication outlets, newsletters, social media, etc.
  • Supporting the Park’s volunteer Friends Group in their role as ambassadors for the park.
  • Working alongside the Project Manager and attending project team meetings to ensure the activity programme is coordinated with the park restoration works.

To be successful in undertaking this role you’ll need:

  • A passion for and knowledge of working with the community.
  • Good organisational skills and practical abilities relevant to planning and delivering community events in an outdoor setting.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • A keen interest in developing and delivering events and activities that encourage and enable the public to enjoy and experience a heritage parkland.
  • A flexible approach as hours may vary and will include weekend and evening work.
