Job Description

Streets of Growth is seeking to employ an experienced and entrepreneurial individual as a Youth Intervention Coach on a full-time basis who has strong track record of working with young people (15-25 years) and their families.  The successful candidate will join our innovative team of Intervention Practitioners who interweave street work, outreach intervention with entrepreneurial programming focused around lifestyle change, education, enterprise, employability and the environment, that positively change the socioeconomic realities for stuck young people (15-25) and their families.

Streets of Growth is an outcome driven charity, working to reduce harm and positively transform the lives of the most vulnerable and at-risk young people and their families in Tower Hamlets East London. We do not wait for the young people to walk through our doors, or to be referred by an agency, instead we engage and reach out to young people across the streets and neighbourhoods. Working to build a relationship of trust, truth and transformation with each young person, coaching and enabling them to support themselves to change negative lifestyles, move away from violence and harm, stay out of prison, get good jobs, and create a better future for themselves.

The successful candidate will be skilled in engaging, assessing and delivering interventions designed to support young people to build personal resilience and move away from harm and violence. Plus, the successful candidate will possess sound risk assessment skills and safeguarding knowledge.  A key component of the job role is, case management and good practice models, which underpin Streets of Growth practice. In addition to this, we are seeking individuals with an understanding of research-based theories related to children, young people and family intervention that would be beneficial to working within our model.

There is an expectation of a start date of either the end of August or early September for the appointed candidate.

Roles and duties

  1. Implementation of Streets of Growth’s Appropriate Intervention Model (AIM) via Bridging programme, across the areas of Lifestyle, Enterprise/Employ-ability, Education and Engaging Institutions that constructively challenge negative patterns of behaviour, creates experience for positive thinking, confidence building, entrepreneurial work skills, tapping into the young people’s ambition, potential and talent.

  2. Working on a case management basis with a caseload of referred and street engaged young people to deliver strategic interventions across Lifestyle, Enterprise/Employ-ability, Education and environment that constructively challenge negative patterns of behaviour, creates experience for positive thinking, confidence building, entrepreneurial work skills, tapping into the young people’s ambition, potential and talent.

  3. Working in partnership with families and other key people in a young persons’ life to build a strong network for positive change and progression for each young person and their family.

  4. Working with the frontline team to deliver targeted street work to engage and build up relationships of trust with high risk and vulnerable young people (15-25 years) in the estates and youth crime hotspot areas across Tower Hamlets.

  5. To work to and meet set progression targets within agreed time-lines and deadlines based on the needs of the young people and their families on your caseload and to meet progression targets for young people on your caseload within in agreed time-lines and deadlines as set by your Manager.

  6. To be responsible for the day to monitoring of the progression of the young people and their families on your case load and any project activities, street work that you are responsible for.This includes keeping accurate record on each young person and their family on your caseload and completing the appropriate monitoring tools as per monitoring schedule.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Three years or more frontline experience of working with young people in one of the following areas, youth work, targeted youth work (such as gang intervention, county lines ) family intervention, social work, youth justice, probation, education or health.
  • A professional qualification in one of the following areas: youth and community work, social work, probation, family intervention, health, education OR relevant degree and experience of working with children, young people and families.
  • Experience of direct work with challenging and hard to engage children and young people; and their families particularly in relation to youth violence, weapon carrying, youth crime, abuse, mental health and trauma, etc.
  • Able to build effective working relationships with a diversity of individuals and groups.
  • A positive, non-judgmental and supportive approach to families.
  • Experience of providing high quality coaching support and knowledge of approaches including those relating to coaching and emotional intelligence that ensure young people and their families can develop the resilient skills needed to move out of crime, violence, harm and poverty.
  • Experience of working in outreach and field-based capacity, particularly in relation to street work.
  • Commitment to improving outcomes
  • Experience of inclusion, safeguarding, and teamwork.
  • Excellent communication and administration skills.
  • Good IT skills and ability to use Microsoft packages and previous experience of inputting data on CRM system.
  • Desirable is the experience and or a good understanding of the needs and challenges facing young people and communities of Tower Hamlets and East London.

Contract: One-year fixed term with potential to be made permanent dependent on progression achievements and funding. Full time 37 hours per week (however, part time applicants will be considered). Evening and weekend working will be required but will be reflected in workload and working hours.
