Work Coach (Employability Mentor)
the inspire and achieve foundation

Job Description

As a Work Coach/mentor with The Inspire and Achieve Foundation you will be fundamental to helping young people overcome their personal and employability barriers and moving into work. All of our mentoring is done on a one to one basis, needs to focus on the needs of the young person, and should be done to the highest quality. Our young people deserve the best support available.

Introduction to The Inspire and Achieve Foundation (the employer):

The Inspire and Achieve Foundation is a small, thriving, Nottinghamshire based charity that does everything it can to help unemployed young people aged 16-25 into positive outcomes and into employment. We are a dedicated and ethically driven team that puts the needs of the young person at the heart of all our provision. We are looking for ‘can-do’ employees who are passionate, enthusiastic, have empathy and integrity, who are hard-working (go above and beyond), and who have a demonstrable passion for helping young people. We think outside the box and recruit based on passion and experience rather than by qualifications alone, so if you do not have the required qualifications but are confident you can do the job then please state your case in a cover letter.

Our provision includes outreach work (sports and social), one to one mentoring/work coaching (inc. this BBO role), and training programmes (inc. the Prince’s Trust Team Programme). We are based in Mansfield/ Ashfield/ Warsop at present but are building the team ready for expansion to central Nottingham in September 2019 (St Ann’s/ Meadows/ Bullwell/ Hyson Green etc).

We believe that where there is a will there is a way, and we believe young people deserve a second chance. If you are passionate about helping young people who have had a difficult start to their lives then come and be part of the journey #Changinglives

Background to the Building Better Opportunities and Towards Work Programme

The Building Better Opportunities Programme (BBO) is one of the mentoring contracts that The Inspire and Achieve Foundation delivers in the North Nottinghamshire area. This role will be working solely on this contract. The BBO contract is jointly funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership European Social Fund (ESF) and aims to combat the root causes of poverty, promote social inclusion, challenge long-term unemployment, and empower socially excluded people.

Under the BBO ‘umbrella’ there are various strands of activity and The Inspire and Achieve Foundation has a contract under the strand titled ‘The Towards Work Programme’. In simple terms, for us, it is a employability and mentoring contract helping young people aged 16-25.

Purpose of the Role

The Inspire and Achieve Foundation has a simple purpose for its mentoring team and that is to help young people overcome their personal and employability barriers and support them as required on their journey into work. All of our mentoring is done on a one to one basis, needs to focus on the needs of the young person, and should be done to the highest quality. Our young people deserve the best support available. This BBO Work Coach role is essentially no different but there is a heavy requirement to complete documentation to meet the funder/programme criteria so we are looking to recruit an individual who excels at paperwork and organisation.

Formally the purpose of the role is described as follows:

The Work Coach will contribute to the overall success of the BBO towards Work Programme within Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire. The successful candidate will work directly with unemployed and economically inactive participants by effectively delivering a holistic, personalised support service, which empowers participants with the self-belief, skills, motivation and confidence to enable them to progress into employment, self-employment or further training/education. The Work Coach will facilitate a range of Employability and Personal Development Interventions, via 1:1 and group based learning and development sessions. They will provide participants with comprehensive Initial Diagnostic Assessments, plan and deliver their learning & development, evaluate and measure their progress and impart guidance, knowledge and mentoring. They will play a pivotal role in helping individuals to overcome their fears and barriers and to develop their employability skills.
