Volunteer Manager
youth adventure trust

Job Description

The Youth Adventure Trust is a youth development charity working with vulnerable young people aged 11 to 16 years old from Wiltshire and Swindon. Through a series of residential camps and activity days, our outdoor based Youth Adventure Programme helps young people to build resilience, self esteem and develop social and life skills. Our aim is to make a lasting improvement to the lives of vulnerable young people. Volunteers are an essential part of delivering our programme, working with the young people to ensure they gain the maximum benefit from their experiences with us, and also by supporting our fundraising activities.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic Volunteer Manager to help ensure we fulfil our ambitious expansion plans. Volunteers are critical to the success of our programme for vulnerable young people, and as the organisation grows, so does the need for capable, skilled, empathetic, engaging and committed volunteers.

You will act as a key point of contact for our programme and event volunteers, with responsibility for recruiting, training, supporting, coaching and managing them in their role. You will be responsible for an array of administration and detailed record keeping, including maintaining information on a database. You will keep up to date and ensure the charity is responsive to volunteer management issues, legal requirements and guidance, and represent the charity within the wider sector.

You will support volunteers at camps and activity days throughout the year, working directly with the young people to demonstrate good practice, and helping ensure they gain maximum benefit from the opportunities available.

The Candidate

To be up to the challenge you’ll need experience of working with volunteers, as well as relevant experience working with vulnerable and challenging young people. You’ll need strong facilitation, influencing and motivational skills, and proven abilities at building effective relationships; the capacity to get the best out of people and confidently deal with issues. You’ll be an excellent communicator, planner and problem solver, a strong team player and an exemplary role model.

We need an organised and methodical person with excellent administrative and IT skills. You’ll need a flexible and dynamic approach, with the self-motivation to work on your own initiative.

You must be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people, with a positive attitude, high energy and enthusiasm for the work of the Youth Adventure Trust.

A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle is required. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
