The Allen Trust seeks to apoint New Trustees

Governance and/or Charity Investment experience desirable

The Allen Trust (Reg. charity no. 1146388) was founded in 2011 primarily to improve the quality of education to children in post conflict areas where there is likely to be a high percentage of refugees needing help. Our work is in rural communities using local providers, often where we are the sole provider of assistance. The charity currently has net assets of approximately £1.8 million and makes annual grants of about £110,000. It is anticipated this will rise to circa £200,000.

Funds raised by The Allen Trust have been used to support, among other charitable causes selected by the trustees, the educational works of African Revival (Reg. charity no. 1108718) currently in Northern Uganda and South Sudan, broadly along the road and surrounding area from Koboko in Northern Uganda to Ibba in South Sudan (ADM Allen being the Chair and a founding trustee of the charity). We also have supported Brickworks who serve children in Yei, and Kajo Keji, both provinces are in South Sudan. The work includes school building, teacher training, bench desk provision, encouragement of girls schooling, bicycles for teachers, and distribution of scholastic materials.

We have also been purchasing ambulances and evacuation vehicles that supply humanitarian aid for deployment close to the active front line in Ukraine.

We have trialled working in Zemio in the Central African Republic and continue to support the work of Starfish Malawi with whom we have a historic connection.

The Allen Trust is now seeking to expand its trustee board to assist its decision making and to strengthen its governance.  We aim to recruit two or more new trustees.  Candidates will ideally have prior charity trustee experience and some expertise in investment management and/or in charity governance.  If you can satisfy one or more of these needs and to learn more about this opportunity, please write in the first instance with an outline CV to:-
