Job Description

Finance Manager – Maternity Cover 9 months

Assist the Head of Finance and Support Services in all aspects of financial and departmental management, ensuring that sound financial controls and procedures are in place, appropriate and accurate records are maintained and that timely and accurate management information is prepared in accordance with agreed organisational procedures.

Key Tasks

  • Act as deputy to the Head of Finance and Support Services and to deal with departmental correspondence as required.
  • Assist the Head of finance in the management of the Finance Department.
  • Responsibility for the payment of suppliers and staff expenses and for the transfer of cash to India and Bangladesh as required.
  • Prepare and run the monthly payroll and liaise with HMRC and other government departments regarding PAYE, NIC etc. as required.
  • Prepare year end payroll returns including P11d and Class 1A NIC.
  • Liaise with Champain (pension adviser) and AEGON regarding auto-enrolment matters.
  • Management of company credit cards.
  • Undertake the daily reconciliation and import of income information to the accounting system from the CRM database.
  • Prepare and undertake the banking of monies received at the Colchester office.
  • Prepare income batches for posting to Progress by donor support.
  • Responsibility for monthly gift aid claim to HMRC.
  • Undertake monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts.
  • Undertake monthly reconciliation of other balance sheet accounts.
  • Administration of legacy notifications including liaison with solicitors etc. as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets liaising with budget holders as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of cash flow forecasts and monthly cash reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts for the organisation to include variance analysis and KPI reporting.
  • Prepare monthly income and expenditure reporting for budget holders.
  • Assist the Head of finance with the preparation of Lepra’s annual SORP accounts prior to the statutory audit.
  • Assist with the training and induction of new Lepra staff in financial policies and procedures.
  • Liaise our support team regarding the provision of information to support fundraising activities.
  • Support the Programmes team by contributing to the preparation of funding bids and the provision of financial information for periodic reporting.
  • Management of the Finance and Payroll Administrator ensuring that they have the skills, knowledge and experience necessary for effective performance.
  • Liaise with Lepra Society and Lepra Bangladesh to ensure timely management reporting and the preparation of information for the audit.
  • To undertake such other activities that are necessary to achieve the overall purpose of the role.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A recognised (full or part) professional accounting qualification, or equivalent

Relevant Experience:

Essential

  • At least 2 years’ experience of statutory accounting within a similar role
  • Experience of management accounting and reporting
  • Experience of planning, budgeting and forecasting
  • Management of staff

Desirable

  • Experience and understanding of charities SORP
  • Experience of funded projects and reporting to external donors
  • Liaison with auditors
  • Monthly Payroll

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Essential

  • The ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of accounting software packages, Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
  • Working to deadlines

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Access Dimensions accounting software and  Access Payroll SE software
  • Working knowledge of payroll processing and procedures
