womankind worldwide

Job Description

An exciting opportunity to promote women's rights globally

Womankind Worldwide is a women’s rights organisation and part of the global women’s movement. Women’s movements are changing the world by demanding equal rights and equality under the law, by supporting and empowering women, and by holding governments and decision makers to account. Womankind has been contributing to positive changes to the rights of women since 1989, working with hundreds of women’s rights organisations. We have supported over 18 million women and their families to change their lives and their communities and influenced governments and other decision-makers to commit to ending violence against women, enable women to gain economic independence and ensure women’s voices are heard.

Our strategy is based on our conviction that transformational change toward a world where the rights of all women are respected, valued and realised requires the sustained engagement of diverse, vibrant women’s movements, as well as individual women’s rights organisations – and strong feminist voices in public debate. Womankind therefore works in solidarity with grassroots women’s rights organisations in low income countries toward:

  • Diverse and independent women’s movements with strength, resilience and collective power
  • An end to all forms of violence against women and girls
  • Women’s economic rights and control over resources
  • Women’s leadership and equal influence in decision making and ability exercise political power

We are now seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals with relevant expertise and experience to join our Board of Trustees. The key priorities are to support the Chief Executive and staff in realising our exciting strategy and championing Womankind externally, using our personal networks to increase the profile of the organisation and our work. We are looking for diverse candidates, who are passionate about our mission and have skills and experience in the following areas: Fundraising, Communications, Finance, Law. We are also keen to make connections with candidates who have links to UK based women’s rights organisations.

You will be joining a dedicated team who care deeply about the difference we are able to make working with women across the world. Board members are expected to attend 4 to 8 board meetings a year in London and in addition support ad hoc initiatives and events.
